Alat Pendeteksi Kualitas Telur
SURABAYA - Berkutat lama di dunia peternakan ternyata bisa menghasilkan inspirasi karya skripsi yang aplikatif. Pengalaman itulah yang dilakukan Dwi Taufik Hidayat. Setahun bekerja di peternakan itik, mahasiswa teknik informatika Untag tersebut menghasilkan sebuah alat pendeteksi kualitas telur.

"Bukan untuk mendeteksi letak telur, namun menentukan apakah telur tersebut baik atau tidak jika ditetaskan," ujar Taufik.

Dengan cara tradisional, umumnya telur harus diperiksa satu-per satu dengan teliti. Pertama, telur diketuk-ketuk dulu menggunakan ujung jari. Setelah itu, telur diterawang di tempat terang. Cara seperti ini tentu butuh waktu cukup lama. Nah, dengan alat karya Taufik, proses mendeteksi telur tersebut menjadi relatif singkat.

''Tinggal lewatkan saja telurnya di alat ini, kemudian alat otomatis akan mendeteksi medan magnet dan mengukur volt yang dihasilkan telur,''paparnya.

Tegangan yang dihasilkan alat itu bergantung pada tebal tipisnya cangkang atau kulit telur. Semakin tebal, makin kecil tegangan yang dihasilkan. Telur dengan kulit tebal menghasilkan 2.775-2.778 milivolt, sedang 2.779-2.782 milivolt, dan telur berkulit tipis ukurannya di atas 2.782 milivolt. ''Telur yang bagus untuk ditetaskan adalah telur dengan ketebalan kulit sedang,'' terangnya.

Bukan berarti telur dengan kulit yang tebal atau tipis tidak bisa ditetaskan. Namun, jika ditetaskan, telur dengan kulit yang terlalu tebal atau tipis tersebut akan menghasilkan itik yang rentan sakit. Kondisi itu berbeda dengan itik yang dihasilkan dari telur dengan ketebalan sedang. Itik-itik tersebut lebih sehat.

''Informasi ini saya peroleh dari hasil wawancara dengan model random sampling pada beberapa peternak itik tentang pemilihan telur yang baik untuk ditetaskan,''tuturnya.

Selain itu, Taufik melakukan penelitian sendiri. Selanjutnya, dia berpikir untuk membuat alat. Alat tersebut selesai dalam waktu satu bulan. Karena sudah mengenal seluk-beluk peternakan, Taufik tidak mengalami kesulitan. Hasil ujian skripsi putra pasangan Mulyadi dan Chusnul Chotimah itu pun mendapatkan nilai A plus. (sha/hud)
